Disaster Relief: F.A.S.T.
(Florida Animal Sheltering Team) HELP
Spearheaded by the S.P.C.A. of Central Florida, this program
was developed to alleviate already full animal shelters in
the state during times of disaster or serious or severe overcrowding.
Animals that have been relinquished by their owners, or strays
that have completed their legal hold time, may be moved to
a participating shelter partner.
Since the SPCA of Central Florida is located in the center
of the State, we have often been called on to help our agency
friends from Jacksonville to the Keys. We have accepted companion
animals from shelters who have experienced the worst that
Mother Nature has to offer
including fires, floods,
tornadoes and hurricanes. We have even provided temporary
shelter to some unusual animals, including a wolf and two
cougars, which needed to be relocated because of fires near
their wildlife refuge!
For some agencies, shelter overcrowding can lead to the euthanasia
of otherwise adoptable pets. To help these shelters, and the
pets in their care, we have gladly taken in pets from overcrowded
shelters as far away as North Carolina and Alabama.
The SPCA of Central Florida is committed to providing
a second chance at life for these pets in need.
